Each of us has their favorite relaxation spot. On the couch, armchair, in the bedroom or maybe on the balcony, we like to spend time with a cup of tea and a book in moments when we want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Today I want to propose a new source of inspiration for setting up a reading nook by the window. This way, you can enjoy more natural light, read freely or work if needed, this can be your corner of inspiration.

I turned to architect Alexandra Stamate from Jooca Studio for advice on how we can achieve such an arrangement.

“First of all, you need to analyze the place you want to furnish. There are three options you can consider: a bench by the window, a deep window sill or a countertop over the radiator.

When the parapet height (i.e., the distance between the floor and the window sill) is higher than 45 cm and there is no radiator, a bench can be the perfect solution. Ideally, it should be framed on both sides by furniture and/or walls so that you can lean back while reading or admiring the view. In addition, you can use the bench for storage.

If there is a radiator, however, you need to make sure that the bench does not completely obstruct the heat source.

If the house walls are thick and the window sill is deep, you can easily set up a small and cozy reading nook: place a few soft and fluffy pillows, some decorations and possibly seasonal flowers. In case there is a radiator under the window, mount a wooden board over it.

Be careful how you fix this board: you can attach it to the wall if space allows; otherwise, you will need to support it with vertical elements and thus create a frame bench.”
