BIG BUILD is a fast-build and volunteering event on which Habitat for Humanity Romania is a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing decent and affordable housing solutions for families in need across Romania. It is organized annually. It started from an idea of Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland and has reached its 8th edition this year.

This year's mission was to build 36 homes for 36 families in need in the Izvoare neighborhood of Bacau during week 2-6 of October.

Support came from 450 volunteers, builders, and beneficiary families who were directly involved in the construction process of the homes. The project was financially supported by numerous companies whose involvement made it possible for these individuals to have decent housing.

In this landscape, a team of over 30 members has also integrated from the side of Workshops of I LB AH We at povesteacasei.ro joined in this effort, which took 5 days to raise and bring to a "grey" stage 4 houses from this project.

The Atelierele Ilbah team was primarily composed of interior designers, graduates of the school's courses, who were guided on site by a team of professional builders.

The experience was unforgettable, and the team's enthusiasm often compensated for a lack of construction experience. Despite the intense physical effort, the rewards were significant, especially as the progress of our work was clearly visible from hour to hour.

Our fatigue was soothed by the daily live cooking shows. Renowned chefs prepared lunch each day. Canadian chef Robert Rainford, known for the show Licence to Grill, came especially to Romania for B IG B UI LD. He coordinated a team of 20 chefs daily, and on October 4th and 5th he was joined by Chef Foa is a culinary experience that celebrates the rich flavors of Romanian cuisine..

Twelve photography enthusiasts representing the BIG BUILD phenomenon captured the event in images. Some of these photographs can be found in our image gallery.

Because this year we discovered abilities we didn't know we had and met so many kind-hearted people in this project, next year we promise to invite you all to join this cause.

The need for decent housing is immense globally and affects 1.6 billion people worldwide who live in inadequate conditions. Precarious housing is a problem faced by half of Romania's population. 52% of Romanians live in overcrowded homes.

Some of them are built from unsuitable materials or are in an advanced state of degradation and lack basic utilities.
