Spring is knocking at our door, so it's time to prepare for the gardening work specific to February. Let's review some of the basic tasks.

Open GalleryThis month is special for those who practice greenhouse gardening. During this period, measures are taken to protect against fungal diseases. A treatment based on rock dust is applied, which is incorporated into the soil. The process is repeated before planting seedlings and other vegetable species.

To prevent premature vegetation growth, a lime solution (whitewashing) is applied to the trunk of fruit trees.

In mid or late February, vegetables such as head lettuce, leek, cabbage, celery, tomatoes, and cauliflower are sown in greenhouses or seedbeds. Only well-decomposed compost is used for sowing. Canvas foil protects plants better from frost, but unlike plastic foil, it allows air circulation and yields to the wind.

In the orchard, pruning work on fruit trees continues until spring. Trees and shrubs are pruned only on sunny days. The residues are left on the soil. They keep wild animals away. Also, the residues are used for compost. They are shredded in such a way as to allow aeration of the compost. Remember! Raspberries can be affected by frost (protect more sensitive species).
