A well-designed fence is more than just a barrier; it delineates the boundary between public space and the intimacy of your courtyard. In recent decades, aluminum has become a staple on residential construction sites due to its corrosion resistance and design flexibility, with specialized manufacturers like Alum Gates leading the way in transforming the material into a durable solution harmonized with contemporary architecture.
As a result, more and more projects are incorporating aluminum fences from the concept stage onwards, saving time and money on long-term maintenance.
The first scenario is the classic masonry fence. It all starts with a continuous foundation, laid below the local frost line and rigorously reinforced; above the footing, the plinth is raised, followed by the wall made of ceramic blocks or AAC. The finish can adorn both sides: either cladding with natural stone – granite, travertine, porcelain stoneware – or a pigmented decorative plaster in the shade of the Alum Gates panels.
The thickness of the slabs or plaster must be deducted from the height of the plinth from the beginning so that the fence panel sits at the desired level, and the planarity of the masonry remains critical; any unevenness will immediately reflect in the line of the panels.
The second option is a fence made of finished concrete blocks, such as Traverston, Elis Pavaje, or Star Stone. The construction process is faster: the foundation is poured, horizontal and vertical iron bars are placed in the prefabricated gaps, and the cavities are filled with concrete. The blocks are already textured and colored, so once the concrete has hardened, the wall does not require any plastering or additional cladding.
The Alum Gates panels and gates are anchored directly to this plinth, the light metal contrasting pleasantly with the stone texture. The key to success lies in precise modulation: the openings between the posts must be whole multiples of the length of the block; otherwise, unsightly cuts and material consumption will inevitably increase.
