The ceiling is not the first element you look at when entering a house. However, it plays an important role in creating a sense of spaciousness and freedom. A ceiling that is too low will leave us with an oppressive, claustrophobic impression. If this is also your feeling, we offer below some tips on how to create an impression of raising the ceiling.
The most useful solution for a higher ceiling is to use high lighting; use ceiling mounting methods for spotlights or tall lamps whose light reflects off the ceiling. You will thus create a pleasant, intimate atmosphere.
Pay close attention to furniture when decorating rooms with low ceilings. Use medium-to-low height furniture pieces for an airy room.
Just like mirrors, glass also creates the impression of space and light; therefore, adopt tall windows, from top to bottom, for your windows for an extra dose of natural light. We also add here the option of mounting draperies as high as possible, towards the ceiling; the longer they are, almost reaching the floor, the more they will create the desired feature.
As in fashion, vertical lines or stripes give the impression of height. Use them confidently in the new design of the room. On the same idea, raising the doors to the ceiling works: whether they are between rooms or wardrobe doors in the dressing room or kitchen, the effect will be that of a generous space.
The colors in the room also play an important role. For example, paint the ceiling a lighter color than the walls: white versus cream or pale yellow.
Another useful tip is to use tall accessories and decorative objects: portrait-positioned paintings as high as possible towards the ceiling, or candles, tall plants, or a tall vase with various dried branches. We also recommend shelves at height here. However, avoid cluttering the room to avoid creating the opposite effect of what is desired.
