To help technology enthusiasts, IKEA has launched a furniture collection with a built-in wireless charging system for both phones and tablets. The collection includes bedside tables, lamps, and desks and is part of the Home Smart range, a line through which IKEA aims to develop innovative solutions for a world in constant motion.
The wireless charging products use the global Qi certification standard. This means you no longer have to worry about your charger or running out of battery. Plus, you'll get rid of unsightly cables that always get in the way. The charging system works through inductive energy transfer.
For this to be possible, the piece of furniture itself must be connected to a power source. All you have to do then is place your phone on the area marked with the plus sign (+) and it will automatically start charging.
The Qi standard works with most smartphones on the market (such as those from Samsung and HTC, as well as Microsoft products), but some models, such as iPhones, are not compatible with this charging system.
Therefore, Ikea will also make a charging kit available to its customers so that all types of phones can use this wireless system.
The furniture pieces have a simple design, easily adaptable to different rooms and decorating styles.
The new solution of transforming bedside tables, lamps, and desks into charging hotspots will be available in North America and Europe, including the IKEA store in Romania, starting April 2015.
