The story of this apartment began with the desire of a young family of IT programmers, with two young children, to transform their old apartment into a spacious, modern and bright space.
Open Gallery The usable area of the apartment is 81.5 square meters plus 9 square meters of balcony. Completed in 2018, the arrangement took eight months, from the project stage, ordering materials, finishes and furniture to the construction site, furniture assembly and accessories. Approximately €45,000 was invested.
The concept of the project, the creation of a bright and spacious space, is based on the aesthetic and functional solution of the beneficiaries' requirements: housing adapted to the needs of all family members, separate bedrooms for children, generous storage spaces, a dining area in the kitchen, a library, the creation of a small office area for days when working from home.
The apartment is located in an old block in Bucharest. Initially, it consisted of two separate bedrooms with a third bedroom communicating with the living area through two large doors. To the left of the entrance was a pantry that was difficult to access and which was transformed into storage space.
After partitioning, the space was distributed into three bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, two bathrooms (one of which is a service bathroom), an entrance hall, a distribution hallway and two balconies.
The process of shaping the much-desired home began by uncovering the walls, finishes and old plaster, renovating the electrical and plumbing installations according to the new configuration in the project, renovating the balconies and enclosing one of them. The stage of new finishes followed, carefully selected: tiles, faience, parquet flooring, washable paint.
The modern style and unitary arrangement confer a harmonious continuity of spaces, the chromatic palette and stylistic expression throughout the dwelling being interrupted only by the children's bedrooms, furnished in bright colors, conveying a playful atmosphere. White and warm shades of gray predominate the space, enhanced and warmed by small insertions of oak wood texture.
While white walls provide brightness to the spaces, walls with contrasting finishes generate dynamism and accentuate areas of interest.
The surface of the hallway is not large but through the volumetric furniture made to order by Kubik Furniture, it appears more generous, a pleasant combination between aesthetics and functionality, creating a useful and varied storage system. Strategically placed mirrors create a sense of spaciousness, harmoniously reflecting light.
Hexagonal ceramic tiles with a marble look (Deta Studio) were used at floor level; the playful and unconventional combination of these with the parquet flooring in the rest of the dwelling creates dynamism and together with the fretwork used for decorating the furniture doors, it gives personality to the space.
