Everyone knows what a rope is - a long thread obtained by twisting multiple textile fibers. An old meaning is also cord, string, braid.
Rope also means an official measure used in the past for land areas (a value that varied depending on the era). It appears in many expressions: to pull the rope, to spin the ropes, to stretch the rope. Its origin is the Old Slavic word s Uvora. It is a word attested around the year 1700.
It can be seen how, in certain cases, Old Slavic words partially replaced old terms inherited from Latin. This is the case of rope, a synonym for rope. Each term has specialized semantically. It is interesting that the meaning measure for land surfaces exists for both words in the standard language: a rope of land and a rope of land.
