The growth of vegetables and seedlings in greenhouses is so rapid that the harvest time can occur up to two weeks earlier than for plants grown in other conditions. The advantage of greenhouses over nurseries is that the foil roof can be mounted and moved over any layer of vegetables.
We build tunnel-type greenhouses as follows: we fix transparent foil purchased from trade on a curved frame of various sizes. If we want to build a tunnel greenhouse, we must first raise the frame made of plastic or iron pipes, bent. We stretch the foil along the length above the frame, and at the end of the greenhouse we tighten it and fix it with bricks.
The foil is fixed at the base, along the length of the greenhouse, with a plank on which stones are placed so that the wind does not carry it away, but at the same time it can be opened laterally for ventilation.
Depending on the weather, sowing in greenhouses can start from mid-March.
Even on warm spring days, we need to ventilate and open the narrow part of the greenhouse, lift the foil and fix it to the first support posts. Throughout the summer, a series of maintenance work must be done: weeding, watering, airing.
The greenhouse can be kept during the winter. In this case, we recommend burying the edges in the ground so that the foil is not taken by the wind and to provide cold-resistant vegetables with safe protection against rain and snow.
