The design project we propose today is about compromises and functional solutions. We are talking about a 60 square meter apartment designed for a mother and her daughter.
Irina was alongside them to create the project according to their needs and budget. One of the major changes was giving up the living room to transform it into the girl's room. Practically, the entire living area moved into the kitchen perimeter. Thus, we have two bedrooms, the girl's being more spacious.
The designer's proposals focused on obtaining functional spaces for each area, from the kitchen to the bathroom. The design follows a Scandinavian line, in which colors and prints bring joy and dynamism.
We started from a neutral base to keep the spaces as bright as possible, to which touches of color were added through different wallpaper patterns that form accent zones in the respective rooms, even in the hallway.
The furniture is simple, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of the two beneficiaries. In the hallway there is a dressing room of approximately 2 square meters that takes over some of the bulkier items, and in the two rooms custom-made pieces were integrated to meet the mother's and daughter's needs.
In the child's room, furniture was not exaggerated, as the girl grows up, part of the existing pieces will be modified. Small bodies were used, which allow organization with the help of boxes and baskets; the low price was the main criterion according to which this choice was made.
The girl's room attracts attention through an entire wall with cheerful wallpaper, complemented by a canopy bed straight out of fairy tales. The arrangement of the room is simple, without furniture that would overwhelm the space, except for the wardrobe next to the door.
The kitchen is the common space for this small family. Whether cooking or eating together, the space takes on the characteristics of a living area. The 13 square meter surface and the opening towards the hallway support this reconfiguration. The design here is conceived in two zones: the technical one, intended for cooking, and the one for dining.
