London-based designer Marjan van Aubel has designed a table that harvests solar energy to charge portable devices. It captures energy from daylight to power gadgets; all within the comfort of your home. While you read a book or write an email, you can use the table to charge your phone, for example.
The glass table contains a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and, based on photosynthesis, uses color properties to generate electricity.
Unlike conventional solar cells, these colored cells don't require direct sunlight and can function in diffused light as well. This makes the Current Table the first piece of furniture that stores energy indoors where utility and aesthetics are combined in everyday objects.
Marjan van Aubel is a Dutch designer whose expertise spans science and chemistry. Her research blends scientific precision with sensory responses to develop aesthetic and practical solutions for the future.
