A green, lush lawn is the dream of every homeowner. However, summer comes with high temperatures, drought periods, and increased wear and tear – all of which can affect the appearance and vitality of your lawn. Fortunately, with a little attention and a few basic rules, you can keep your lawn in excellent shape even during the hottest months of the year.

Proper Lawn Mowing

Regular mowing is essential for a healthy lawn, but in summer it's important to adjust the frequency and cutting height.

Ideal Height: During hot months, mow your lawn less frequently and not too short. Leave the grass blades at a height of 6-8 cm to protect the soil from evaporation and allow roots to develop.

Golden Rule: Don't cut more than one-third of the grass blade height at each mowing.

A lawn mowed too low is more vulnerable to dryness, weeds, and diseases.

Efficient Watering

Watering is undoubtedly the most important summer activity for lawn maintenance.

Right Time: Water your lawn early in the morning, before 9:00 am, to prevent rapid evaporation and allow leaves to dry before evening (thus preventing fungal growth).

Optimal Amount: Your lawn needs approximately 2-3 cm of water per week, depending on temperatures and soil type. It's better to water deeply once every few days than a little bit every day.

Simple Test: If the grass doesn't spring back to its original shape after you step on it, it's a sign that it urgently needs water.

Summer Fertilization

Fertilization is necessary to provide the nutrients your lawn needs, but it must be done carefully in summer.

Choose a slow-release fertilizer specifically formulated for warm months.

Avoid fertilizing during periods of extreme heat – you risk "burning" your lawn.

Ideally, apply fertilizer at the beginning of summer and then again in mid-season, but in moderate amounts.

Weed Control

Weeds grow rapidly in summer, especially if the lawn is stressed by heat.
