Neo Galateca exclusively hosts, starting March, the renowned Finnish design brand, Iittala. The well-known collections Alvar Aalto, Ego, Nappula or Kastelhemi can now be purchased in Romania as well. Neo Galateca is the newest gallery-shop in Bucharest, being integrated into the cultural space Galateca.
The Iittala legend was written by internationally renowned Finnish designers such as Alvar Aalto, who "freed" glass from geometric shapes, Tapio Wirkkala and Kaj Franck, who revolutionized glass design.
The story begins in 1881, when a glass factory was opened in the town of the same name in southern Finland. At the beginning of the 20th century, Iittala is one of the first design companies to make the transition from decorative style to functional style. The architects of this brand are none other than the pioneers of modern and functional design, Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck.
Their philosophy was to create beautiful objects and discover new forms.
In the 1950s and 1960s Iittala will lead a real revolution in design, especially of glass objects. For Iittala, every piece must have both an attractive design that stands the test of time and functionality. At Iittala, traditional manufacturing techniques are preserved.
Thus, each Alvar Aalto vase means no less than seven artisans, twelve processing stages, 1100 degrees Celsius and a duration of 30 hours.
Today, behind the design of Iittala are famous creators such as Alfredo Haberli, Klaus Haapaniemi and Harri Koskinen.
