No matter how big or small your yard is, a well-arranged corner can become the perfect place for relaxation, reading, or socializing. You don't need huge budgets or a team of designers – just a little creativity, some suitable materials, and the desire to create your own oasis of peace.

In this article we show you how to transform an unused corner in your yard into an intimate and charming relaxation space.

Choose the right corner

The first step is identifying an ideal location: a quiet, secluded spot, possibly shady during the day. Even a 22 square meter space can be enough to create a cozy area if you have a small yard. Depending on your needs, choose a place:

as sheltered from wind and noise as possible;

with easy access from the house;

oriented towards the sun in the morning or afternoon, if you like to sunbathe or read in natural light.

Define the visual area

A relaxation area should be visually delimited from the rest of the yard. You can do this using:

slabs or wood for flooring – a platform made of pallets or outdoor tiles will delimit the area;

curtains or textile panels – add intimacy and a bohemian feel;

large pots with plants – define the space in a natural way;

a hedge or pergola – for extra shade and charm.

Comfortable and durable furniture

A relaxation space needs comfortable furniture, but adapted to outdoor conditions. Choose:

garden armchairs and sofas, with waterproof cushions;

hanging beds, swings or hammocks, if space allows;

low tables for coffee, tea or reading;

wooden benches or DIY furniture made from pallets, for a rustic look.

Don't forget: comfort is key. Add fluffy blankets, decorative pillows and possibly an outdoor rug for extra visual warmth.

Play with plants and nature

Greenery and flowers not only beautify the space but also contribute to the relaxing atmosphere. You can use:

hanging plants on a trellis or pergola;

flowers in colorful pots on the edge of the space;

aromatic herbs (mint, lavender, basil) for relaxing scents;

plants raised in planters to create a natural barrier from the rest of the yard.

If you have little time available, opt for perennial plants or succulents that don't require daily care.
