Natural light has a positive impact on the well-being of Romanians, according to a study conducted by V EL UX România V EL UX România. Thus, 70% of participants stated that natural light in homes significantly improves their mood and has an effect in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms.
To understand the link between natural light and the mental well-being of Romanians, V EL UX România, one of the leading manufacturers of roof windows, which markets products and solutions for smart homes, conducted research by interviewing a sample of 1,000 urban residents aged over 18.
According to the research, 72% of respondents declare that natural light has positive effects and significantly improves their mood. Women are the most receptive, with 87% stating that natural light in homes has a significant impact on mental well-being.
Natural light directly influences the organism's circadian rhythm, which regulates the sleep-wake cycle and the production of vitamin D, essential for health and well-being. It can also prevent the onset of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a form of depression caused by lack of exposure to natural light and which usually appears during periods of seasonal change.
Who suffers most from the lack of natural light
Respondents aged over 45 are less likely to consider that their mental state is negatively influenced by the lack of natural light and fresh air in enclosed environments, with 72% holding this opinion.
To improve awareness regarding the importance of natural light, 62% of respondents believe that more efforts should be made to educate the public about its benefits for mental health.
