Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015, saw the ELLEDECORATIONROMANIANDESIGNAWARDS Gala take place, one of the most important international design competitions, in its second edition in Romania. This year's edition had Delta Studio and The Park Apartments as main partners and took place at Club Control in Bucharest.
The event was hosted by Cosmin Tudoran, bringing together important figures from the world of architecture and design.
The awards offered were: best office space design, best private home design, best public space design, best object design, best object designer. A distinction was also given for the most active supporter of design and architecture and a special award for lifetime achievement.
The trophies awarded are the creation of artist Catalin Nastasoiu, inspired by RONATIV, a project in which the map of our country is creatively reinterpreted.
The Alukonigstahl company received the award for best office design for its Schuco thermal insulation joinery showroom redesign by Mana de lucru.
The project aimed to remodel the display area for joinery profiles, glass and other specific products, plus two meeting spaces: a closed meeting room for staff and an open work point for discussions with clients, differentiated from the rest of the space by a change in level. In addition to these, there is also the access and reception area.
The public's favorite in the best public space design category was Carturesti Carusel bookstore, designed by architects Sabin Dumitriu, Adrian Cancer-Zeana, Ioan Vladescu, Andrei Palita. The architects approached the building as a permanent element and their intervention as a fragment of its history.
They created an organic, fluid form that winds between existing structural elements, retreating behind the pillars and expanding into the spaces between them.
Blogger Adela Parvu presented the award for best home design to Eclectico Apartment in Timisoara, designed by Ezzo Design.
The award for best object design of the year was presented by Dragos Bonea, General Manager Delta Studio, for the Flip project created by Mihai Dumitrache and Maria Decu. FLIP stemmed from the need to create a piece of furniture that, in a small space, could fulfill both the function of a coffee table/nightstand and a stool with additional storage space.
Designers Dumitrache Mihai and Decu Maria chose the product name based on the simple gesture of turning the lid, a gesture through which its function can be changed.
Mihai Grama was named best object designer of the year, creating interior design objects, from accessories to furniture, for any type of space - sofas, tables and armchairs etc. and is currently one of the most prolific object designers in Romania.
His collection, Ethnocentric, created for Mobila Dalin, is a concrete example of how talent and perseverance have become a measure of success.
