Y O! Home, the new housing concept said to revolutionize contemporary homes, is an innovative design project that proposes a simple and ingenious solution: the multifunctionality of living space.

Through functions incorporated into walls, floor and ceiling, parts of the room slide and move various pieces of furniture, which can be easily concealed or revealed depending on needs.

In this apartment, which is essentially a single room, beds, tables and other furniture items are hidden in the walls and can be changed with a simple push of a button.

Thus, in a room with an area of only 80 square meters, functions specific to the bedroom, living room, kitchen and office have been incorporated. A double bed can be lowered over the relaxation area, which is located slightly below floor level, so that the two areas blend perfectly.

The Y O! Home project respects the simple and adaptable layout of a traditional Japanese house, which allows for multiple activities to take place in the same space.

The technologies of this concept have already been used in the design of cars, yachts and in theater. So it was high time they were applied to modern housing concepts.

Established stage architecture intervenes here with its basic principles – counterweights and mobile parts that allow for safe, easy and energy-efficient movement of large components, such as a bed or a wall.

High-tech elements, such as sensors and electronic components, will make it possible for this concept to be used easily and safely by the whole family," declares Simon Woodroffe. The British architect has managed to transform a single-room apartment into a true home of the future.

Here's a report about Y O! Home made by Channel 4 journalists.
