Flooring is a fundamental element in the design of any home, influencing both the overall aesthetics and the comfort and functionality of the space. Choosing the right flooring depends on a multitude of factors: the room's destination, traffic, budget, personal style, and, last but not least, how easy it is to maintain.

Once chosen, maintaining the flooring becomes essential to preserving its impeccable appearance and extending its lifespan. We will explore some of the most popular types of flooring and how to care for them correctly.

Parquet: Elegance and Natural Warmth

Parquet, whether it's solid wood, engineered, or laminate, adds a touch of elegance and warmth to any room. Solid wood parquet is appreciated for its unique beauty and long-term durability (it can be refinished multiple times), but it is more susceptible to scratches and moisture and requires a larger initial investment and more careful maintenance.

Laminate parquet is a more affordable and wear-resistant alternative, but it doesn't offer the same authentic feel of natural wood.

Parquet Maintenance: Regular cleaning with a soft broom, a vacuum cleaner with a special brush attachment, or a lightly damp mop (never wet!). Use cleaning products dedicated to the type of parquet. Protect the surface from scratches with felt pads under furniture legs and avoid high heels or sharp objects.

Solid wood parquet requires periodic refinishing (sanding and varnishing/oiling).

Tiles: Maximum Durability and Versatility

Tiles, whether ceramic or porcelain, are an excellent choice for areas with high humidity or heavy traffic, such as bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, or terraces. They are extremely resistant to water, stains, and wear, offering a vast variety of colors, patterns, and textures, including imitations of wood or stone.

The main disadvantage is the cold and hard surface, and the grout lines between tiles can get dirty over time.
