The innovative design involves two cut corners reminiscent of the verandas of traditional Romanian houses, thus creating a link with the Romanian rural landscape.
With 140 square meters, the house was built in Brasov, in the village of Harman, for a family with a limited budget who wanted to leave their apartment building and live in an energy-efficient house on land with low maintenance costs.
The main desire was to have a connection with nature, with the outdoors, to feel the difference between life in an apartment block and life in the countryside. The name itself doesn't seem to be chosen by chance, casa-om being an ideal structure for anyone who wishes to live in communion with nature.
Although the Casa-Om has a compact structure, the originality of the design comes from cutting two cubes from the diagonal corners of the house to create two entrances. As one of the architects explains, this option was chosen out of a desire to integrate the house into the landscape, to be one with the external nature.
The Casa-om house was erected quite quickly thanks to a system of modular materials that could be assembled directly on site. The materials used are simple, so the dwelling does not stand out in order to avoid drawing attention. Thin concrete panels were used for the roof and long facades.
The compact ground floor includes the living room, kitchen, utility room, and bathroom. The decor evokes the multifunctionality of the Scandinavian style. White walls, wooden floors, and pops of color in the decorations. Heating is provided through the floor. Upstairs we encounter more color – green, turquoise, and yellow to compensate for the calm of the gray hallway and ground floor.
The interior design is largely dictated by the functionality of the space. Special attention was paid to the orientation of the windows to capture as much of the external landscape as possible and offer diverse perspectives in each room.
