The sales announcement for Casa R, which publications have been writing about extensively, includes many specifications ranging from air conditioning and a private central heating system to double-paned wooden windows and a ready-made internet connection, furniture, and underground garage.

Beyond all the amenities provided, Casa R by Studio 1408 is a beautiful story of how a renovation can transform a ruin into a contemporary work of art.

The building from the 1940s located in the 1 Mai – Turda area belongs to Radu, a young entrepreneur who desired a high-standard, atypical Bucharest residence. To achieve this, he enlisted the team at Studio 1408.

The building's footprint is 38 square meters, and the rooms are structured vertically, with each floor corresponding to a room with a different purpose: kitchen, living room, bedroom, terrace. After passing the small, charming terrace at the entrance, you reach a hall from which you can descend to the basement.

Architects chose to arrange the kitchen at the basement level of the building for more space and to create a central island where one can have a quick breakfast in the morning or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Easy access from the kitchen leads to the 100 sqm yard, featuring a barbecue and an eight-person table.

From the warmth of the wood used in the kitchen, we enter an industrial ground-floor living space with concrete finishes. The chosen color scheme is white and gray, and the furniture is minimalist. A simple and comfortable sofa, a white coffee table, and bare floors without a rug.

The only splash of color is an abstract painting that plays with the same shades of gray and white but surprisingly completes them with a ceruleum blue.

This chromatic trio is also translated into the bathroom, which is contemporary with straight lines and ridges. One element that cannot go unnoticed is the shower. A cabin framed by glass walls that extends beyond the perimeter of the bathroom and opens into the bedroom. A choice that is at least unique and very bold.

In the bedroom, the blue electricity is replaced, in an identical tableau, with bright red, red complemented by a modern armchair in the same hue.

The top floor is the oasis of tranquility we were waiting for after this statement design: an open terrace framed by glass walls, a place that invites meditation and relaxation.
