Compost is a natural agricultural fertilizer made from the slow fermentation of various plant and animal waste mixed with certain mineral substances.
Every garden or orchard needs compost, this natural fertilizer, to make the soil as fertile and productive as possible for your crops. Fertilizers can be purchased from specialty stores, but these often contain chemicals and are not ideal for all plants or trees you want to plant.
You can make good compost yourself by collecting fallen leaves from the yard and all the mowed grass. You need to install a small wire bin in the place where you want to make the compost, then add dry leaves and mowed grass to it.
Ideally, compost should have both brown and green elements: dry leaves (brown), freshly mowed grass (green). These plant residues will ferment very well together inside the bin, forming a very productive compost in a maximum of 2 months.
Once you have stored all the leaves and mowed grass inside the bin, it is good to occasionally water the entire compost to help fermentation. If you want to be sure that the natural fertilizer will be very well fermented, it is recommended to turn it over and mix it about once every week and a half, bringing the dry leaves and grass from the outside in.
All this time, you will need to make sure that the entire compost has a fairly high degree of moisture to achieve optimal results and productivity for your garden.
