This conversion of a 1740 barn in New York State into a spacious home is impressive in every detail. Located on a private 14,500 square meter lot with ample green spaces and numerous trees, the building is accessible from Montauk Highway, hidden from view by the rich vegetation along the street.

Following the conversion, the interior space was equipped with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, an outdoor shower, numerous re-landscaped green areas, and a pool with a fountain. There is a generous living room, a cooking area, and two fireplaces.

The architects preserved and strengthened the superb roof structure, typical of English-style barns introduced to America by colonists and popular in northern regions between 1770 and 1900. The double-pitched roof truss, made entirely of wood, impresses with its size and functions as a protective membrane for the house.

The rafters and joists were reconditioned, preserving the nuances of color, which gives the interior a traditional feel.

The French-style entrance doors, with white trim and glass panels, open to a spacious room, whose generous volume is given by the unusual height of the ceiling. The solid wood floor is intentionally loaded with knots and imperfections, reflecting the vernacular style of the vertical plan.

The height of the walls allowed for the creation of large windows that filter light and bathe the interior in a pleasant hue.

The white walls become a neutral backdrop for the woody essences. The fireplace could not be missing from this ambiance; its rustic aspect marks a lively area of the space, creating a socializing zone together with the sofas placed around it. The ambiance is completed by various vintage details, from fabrics to mirrors and small sculptures.

However, there are also contemporary-inspired details (metal chairs and some lighting fixtures) that offer freshness to this decor.

The bathrooms are completely white, with wooden inserts belonging to the structure of the house. The zenithal windows placed above the bathtub create a space for pampering and moments of tranquility. The bedrooms rely on the same predominance of pure white, the flooring from the living area extending into this space as well.

The kitchen area was paved with irregular natural stone, in keeping with the rustic style of the space, and the flooring extends to the second fireplace, made of brick. This paving continues outdoors, where a dining area has been set up for the warm season.

The entire design is done in accordance with the history of the space, and this is felt in every detail and creates a spectacular atmosphere.
