As soon as I discovered this urban dwelling arrangement, I knew I had to share it with you immediately. Signed by the Doherty Design Studio team, the house embraces a modern, minimalist style and is particularly original through the integration of the interior courtyard into the living space.
The living space was reconfigured so that all rooms in the day zone – kitchen, dining room, and living room – receive more light and access to the interior courtyard.
The entire design concept revolves around the idea of an urban space. Influences of an industrial chic style are reflected in the decorative details that enhance the space.
The kitchen was reoriented, new stairs were added, and particular attention was paid to the design of the inner courtyard so that the interior scheme would have a counterpart in the exterior. Additionally, the courtyard functions as an extension of the living area into the outdoor space. Therefore, this opening is important for the connection between the interior and the surrounding environment, with nature.
The décor maintains a simple line with white and the pleasant hues of wood, as well as geometric shapes both in the form of prints and in the lines of furniture pieces, lighting fixtures, or decorations. Discrete splashes of color enrich the dynamism of the living space.
Wide windows allow light to flood the space and highlight every element, whether brightly colored or not.
Shades of gray combined with white and tiles were used for the interior courtyard, decorating the plant stand and bench in front of it. The height of the palm trees reaches up to the balconies of the bedrooms on the upper floor, thus decorating the tall concrete wall.
The kitchen is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the renovation. The black furniture, the wooden wall painted white with various built-in storage spaces and a marble island, as well as the black of the upper cabinets, chairs, and lighting fixtures make this space our favorite in the house.
Adding the access to the inner courtyard mentioned above certainly puts it at the top of our list for successful urban developments.
