For today we propose you to discover a new arrangement received from our readers. Ioana is 29 years old, a sociologist, passionate about visual arts, hand-made, decorations, interior accessories and fabrics. Design has been fascinating me for about two years. I find it particularly interesting how people use and decorate their living space.
I interact the most with the visuals specific to the vintage and shabby chic areas, but eclecticism also attracts me a lot.
She lives in a 46 square meter studio apartment in Bucharest which she has furnished herself, according to her own taste and needs. Here's how she envisioned the arrangement:
The project started from the need to create intimacy without unnecessary delimitations or obstructing natural light. Being an open space, I felt the need for the space to be divided according to its real utility and the diversity of activities in a home.
I wanted the space to be relaxing and charming, but also to maintain the practicality and efficiency needed at home. Since the space is not very large, the main challenge was choosing efficient and practical furniture and combining it with the elements used to decorate the space.
I chose the parquet in a dark color to create a visible contrast with the walls, but also to frame the rest of the objects in the house. I looked for it to be more like a compact table of color than an imitation of natural wood textures.
The hardest decision was choosing the colors because the space is small and no corner is completely separated from another. The background is predominantly white, increasing the brightness of the room and making it easier to add accent colors.
Most of the decorative elements are floral-themed, pastel-colored, with a vintage feel to soften and balance the gray and dark blue colors. I looked for small-sized elements that would offer diverse color spots, because I imagined this space as a small and colorful labyrinth where every corner has a chromatic story to tell.
The main motifs I combined are: earth, water (paintings with marine themes), flowers, etc.
Kitchen
The kitchen furniture was chosen in gray to create a chromatic base for the decorative elements. The suspended kitchen cabinets were chosen with glass framing to create a perspective of depth and brightness, especially due to the way light reflects during the day in the kitchen area.
Since the living room is a common space with the kitchen work area, I opted to hide some appliances for a relatively uniform look, but also an airy one.
Bedroom
To create an intimate sleeping space, I chose to raise a partition wall so as to visually delimit the bedroom space from the rest of the house.
The library was made with suspended shelves because the volume of books required a library that would not suffocate too much of the living space. This way, I kept access to the books and also saved space.
